Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS)
prolonged exposure to excessive vibration, as from hand tools, causing reduced circulation, numbness and loss of fine motor control in the fingers
Formerly known as ‘vibration white finger’, HAVS affects nerves and blood vessels, affecting sensory perception. Muscular aches and pains are typical, and prolonged exposure to vibration may lead to permanent effects such as those described above.
