Modal analysis

determining resonant frequencies, damping, and mode shape using the measured vibrational response to a given input force

Modal analysis considers the vibration pattern of a machine under external forces. Modal analysis may be contrasted to ODS analysis, which considers the vibration pattern of a machine or structure due to its own internal forces during operation.
